I am getting back on track again after the holidays and find myself turning to my arsenal of light and healthy desserts.

Homemade Chocolate Yogurt Recipe - Food Meanderings (1)

I make this Chocolate Yogurt for a guilt-free easy dessert or snack and it is a very satisfying alternative to eating something naughty. It also makes a great back to school kids lunch box snack (for the kids or you). This recipe is 2 WW points on the blue plan.

However, this is more of a tip than a recipe. Actually, it came to me as a Weight Watchers tip. But I wasn't expecting this part: my kids love this yogurt with chocolate too!

🥘 Ingredients

I use agave in my chocolate yogurt recipe instead of honey, as I much prefer the taste. This natural sweetener is valued as a vegan alternative to honey and touted for its low glycemic index. Although agave packs 20 calories per teaspoon, five more than granulated sugar, like honey, it's sweeter than sugar, so you need less to achieve the same level of sweetness.

You only need 3 ingredients!

  • agave * you can substitute honey, but you'll need double the amount
  • Greek yogurt *I use non-fat, but you can use regular yogurt instead or cultured coconut milk (for vegan) * Greek yogurt has more protein and will keep you feeling full longer
  • cocoa

📖 Variations

Vegan option: use a dairy-free yogurt alternative (So Delicious makes a cultured coconut milk)

Frozen yogurt: I love this snack so much that I used it as a base and turned it into other delicious frozen desserts! It's also the base recipe for my frozen yogurt bark: Rocky Road Froyo Bark .

AND my Skinny Black Forest Ice Cream Sandwiches !

💭 Top tip

Add the cocoa slowly, mixing in a little at a time, gently and preferably with a whisk. If you try to add it all at once and stir, you'll end up with cocoa all over the counter!

🌡️Storing

You can store this recipe in the fridge, in an airtight container, for up to 4 days. You can also freeze it and eat it as frozen yogurt. It works best if you freeze it in sheets (or squares) with toppings or fillings, as you can see from the recipes above.

This chocolate Greek yogurt is yet another healthy chocolate snack you can add to your 'back to school' lunch bag food repertoire!

Servings: 4 servings

Calories: 111kcal

Prep Time: 5 minutes minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups non-fat Greek yogurt for vegan: substitute non-dairy yogurt alternative (cultured coconut milk) or use regular yogurt, if preferred
  • 2 tablespoon agave syrup
  • 3 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder

US Customary - Metric

Instructions

  • Mix all ingredients together, adding the cocoa slowly, mixing in a little at a time, with a whisk. Add more agave and cocoa powder to your liking (Note: this will increase calorie count and WW points)

Notes

*NOTE: When I created the recipe in my WW app, it gives 2 WW points for blue. But when I plug in the results from the nutritional calculator on this blog, it gives 4. However, the WW app is more accurate for this recipe because I am able to specify the exact ingredients for WW. You can choose to split the difference and record 3 WW points, but I count it as 2 because the only ingredient counted as points in the WW app is agave.

**NOTE: for VEGAN- use a non-dairy yogurt alternative (So Delicious makes one)

That actually looks quite yummy! I wonder if you could use fat-free Greek vanilla yogurt instead, and omit the agave sweetener? Just a thought, as I don't care for the taste of agave sweetener. Thanks for posting - always good to have low-cal/low-fat ideas for snacks.

Hi: sure you could use vanilla Greek yogurt- great idea! Vanilla and chocolate go perfectly together! Or even honey (that may even have been the original sweetener) Enjoy!
