Chocolate Tea Recipe (Cocoa Tea) (1)

I first tasted this cocoa tea or chocolate tea as it is called there in Ooty. We had this piping hot in one of the small shops near the lake. Piping hot chocolate tea after a wonderful boating was really brilliant and I enjoyed various types of tea during out stay.

On tasting we could easily guess how to make chocolate tea. So I gave the packets of cocoa tea from the stores a miss and tried it at home from scratch. As expected we loved this homemade cocoa tea even more. After all while making at home, we have total control over ingredients as we prefer right?

I am total coffee freak but I can never say no to a well made cup of tea, especially during winter evenings. Rather than plain chai, I like to spike my tea with ginger, mint or homemade tea masala powder. Sometimes I also make this super delicious chai hot chocolate.

During cold winter evenings is there anything better than snuggling with a cup of chocolate tea, few crackers and a good book?

To make best chocolate tea at home start with finest quality tea leaves. You can use any good variety loose tea leaves or granules. Go for strong or light variety as you like. To get the same taste as in ooty chocolate tea, use ooty tea leaves or granules.

Next use unsweetened cocoa powder for this recipe. You can also use any hot chocolate mix or drinking chocolate powder but for strong unmistakable chocolate flavor use cocoa powder. I have used cadbury cocoa powder. The quantity can slightly varied from the given amount to suit your taste.

For flavor I have added a teeny bit of cinnamon powder and 2 cardamom pods. These both spices go very well with chocolate flavor. You can also add some vanilla extract.
