Bubble Up Pizza Recipe (2024)

So this recipe has been annoying me for a while — it is like a hangnail – super duper annoying.

Let me explain

This is the type of story that my husband would roll his eyes at BUT seriously I have had this on my mind for years

A few years ago I made this recipe ( well I changed it up ) – I love having a slightly burnt cheese topping. Well I went a little too far and this was the result

Yep! It is a picture that will cause nightmares ( okay maybe that is going a little far) but it is a far cry from the “new” picture

This is the basic recipe feel free to add in your favorite pizza toppings

What I love most about this recipe is that you will use the fully amount of the products ( well not the pepper ) but you know what I mean. I hate when recipes only use 1/3 of some obscure product and after the recipe is done you are left with 2/3rds of a fish sauce bottle getting all funky in your fridge.

Let’s see some close up shots ( I love this part )

First off thanks Dad for holding the spatula while I took the shot 🙂

This dish is basically pull apart pizza in casserole form. Just whip it up and your family will have fun pulling apart the casserole 🙂

Oh did I mention the recipe is done in under 30 minutes ( woot woot )

Please indulge me – check out one more final dish picture

If you make this dish for a party it will be gone so fast 🙂

It was gone within an hour with 3 people ( my family) gobbling it up

We added meat to the recipe as well. My daughter liked it so much she is even taking the leftovers in a thermos in her lunch today. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

        • Watson

YAY!!!! I am so glad 🙂

  • katie martin

I usually just make my own biscuits so will have to try this with homemade biscuits and see how it turns out.

    • Henna Wasim

can you post the recipe for the homemade biscuits/dough…we dont have the ready made stuff available here in our corner of the world, tx

  • buella

do you think you could add cut up pepperoni to it or would that burn? love to Watson!

    • Watson

      It would not burn

  • Mary

I have a family I four. Do you think doubling the recipe would be too much?

    • Watson

Not at all – it is perfect I suggest serving a nice salad with it since it is a lot of carbs

  • Sarah

I made this for dinner tonight, added sausage and peperoni at my hubby’s request… It was SO good!! It fed two adults and one child. A low cost meal as well… I’ll make this again for sure 🙂 I love your recipes! I don’t think I’ve made one we didn’t like…

    • Watson

Awww that means so much to me 🙂 I am SOOOO glad you liked it 🙂

  • Robin

Made this the other night. Added those small pepperonis on top of the rolls. Baked for about 20 minutes, then added the rest of the cheese on top. And then baked the rest of the time frame.. Oh My…. Yummy.. Fed 4 adults on this for cheap money. Bought all ingredients on sale so only spent about $5 total for our dinner. Thanks for the great idea!

Can you make this with the little regular buttermilk biscuits? If so, would it be 2 cans?

  • Shani

My grandma used to make this and she called it “pop up pizza”

  • kim murray

I use 3 caaans of biscuits squish all biscuits into a big ball then flatten out on a greased cookie sheet I use butter to grease. Put sauce cheese and toppings and bake in oven its the best it rises up to a beautiful biscuit crust.

  • Tracey johnson

Could I use pizza dough instead of biscuits?

  • Samantha

We are making this for the second time tonight for the Superbowl, but this is an AWESOME recipe! We should’ve cooked it a little longer since parts were doughy, but it depends on your oven. This was enough for me and my fiance and I finished up for lunch the next day. Thank you so much for this!

    • Watson

You are VERY welcome – thank you so much for posting the review 🙂

  • Rachel

This smelled so good baking and then we sat down to eat it and the dough was not even cooked at all. I baked it for an additional 10 mins to no avail and then another 10 before finally just giving up. It turned into a soggy mess. Any idea what went wrong?

    • Watson

The pan used was not big enough and there were too many sides touching?

    • Heidi

If it’s anything how mine just turned out, I have a feeling it may be too much sauce. Or, the recommended 8×8 dish is too small.

    • Meghan

I had the same problem. I ended up doing th same exact you did and then finally transferred it all to a 9 x 11 dish and cooked another 10 minutes and it was done and delicious!

  • kelly mcgrew

i made this for my boyfriend along with Buffalo Chicken Dip (the ranch dressing one) for my boyfriend for the Super Bowl and he is absolutely obsessed! every time we go food shopping now he says can you make that fluffy pizza again??

    • Watson

Awwww thank is so sweet 🙂

  • Dee Williamson

So instead of ordering pizza, we made THIS recipe for our pizza and movie night. It was a hit!!!

  • Kristen S

I’ve made this twice now and love it. I like to add spinach or mushrooms to it. Fun, quick and yummy.

  • Kayla

This recipe is amazing! I’ve had it a couple different ways but never without meat. This would be a good cheesy dish and family friendly too!

    • Sara

I am SOOO happy you liked it 🙂

  • Leah

Wow. Just amazing. Fantastic. I’ll have cresent rolls around more than pizza dough and soooo much easier and tastier. Thank you for the great great idea!!! (FYI, just finished making it – recipe is perfect and it tastes amazing!!)

  • Stephanie

Ok, I attempted to make this the other night and when I was done I had uncooked bisquits in the middle (top) and burnt bisquits all on the bottom!! Can someone please tell me what I need to do differently!! Please!!

    • Anna

These biscuit bakes are very prone to being underdone. If you use a bundt pan, you shouldn’t have any issues even if you double the recipe. I also like to use bread pans.

On another note, I’ve never seen this recipe with the sauce already in it, sounds yummy!

  • chet

This was crazy delicious and so easy to bake!! Tasted nothing like biscuits and everything like thick crusted pizza!!

  • Twin Mom

This was the first meal our 3 yr old daughter helped prepare. It was a huge hit and she was excited to help with such an easy and tasty meal.

  • Johnnie Sanchez

    Hey there!

If I am making this serving x4, should I add more cooking time?

    Thanks!!!

  • Wendy

This is so amazing! ! I also added fresh oregano and sliced pepperoni thank you for this!!
